The Department for International Development (DFID) was created in 1997 to meet the many challenges of tackling world poverty. It is DFID's job to make sure UKaid works its hardest to help the world's poor.
The communications team at DFID approached us to design a brochure that showcased the positive work that they've undertaken in cities around the world over recent years. They use the knowledge and experiences gained from cities across Europe and deploy them in developing African, Asian and South American cities.
After attending a meeting at the DFID offices to discuss the project with the heads of department we devised a brief for the publication that was to be; communicative, informative and modern. We also had an incredibly tight deadline which allowed very little flexibility so we quickly established a critical path for the project and upon approval began the design process in earnest.
Being such a positive story it didn't take long for the design concepts to flow and we soon had a selection of directions and design themes. We then shortlisted our favourites and sent them, along with paper samples to the team at DFID. After some brief revisions a preferred design style and paper stock were chosen, allowing us to roll the chosen design out across the whole publication.
With members of DFID's team stretched across the globe, from the UK to Sweden to Brazil, we fully utilised the wonders of modern technology to keep the project running on schedule.
Once the whole team were back in the UK, and with the deadline looming, we were able to get the final amendments to the publication made, signed off and the job prepared for print.
To make sure the publication was finished the best it possibly could be, we personally oversaw the print run. Using a state of the art printer, the colours were perfect in no time and we knew it was going to look fantastic and that ultimately the client would be very happy.
The DFID Cities Brochure was delivered on time, on budget and as you would expect, we were pleased as punch as were the team at DFID.
"We are really pleased with the look and feel of the brochure. You and your team at HOLD have done a great job in putting together a quality piece of work in rushed and difficult circumstances and have been good to work with, very accommodating and responsive, so many thanks. I hope we get the chance to work with you again."
